Where to Sip with Dear Old Dad in DC for Father's Day

He’s the guy who changed your diapers, taught you to play ball, or in my case, used his surgical skills to repair broken Barbie dolls on command. This Father’s Day, make sure to thank the father figure in your life by forgoing the tie, golf balls, other cliche gifts he doesn't really want. All he really needs is time with you, and a good drink.

Roofers Union: Organized by the ladies behind the new book, Booze for Babes: the Smart Woman’s Guide to Drinking Spirits Right, Sunday’s father-daughter whiskey tasting promises a guided tasting by Catoctin Creek Distillery and a surprise welcome cocktail in this hip Adams Morgan spot. Of course other family members are welcome too. Sunday, June 15, 1-3 PM. (2446 18th St NW; 202-232-7663)

Graffiato: If your dad is a real man’s man, look no further than Graffiato for the Father’s Day trifecta of whiskey, beer, and cigars. This famous-for-small-plates place is going big with four full plated courses paired with whiskey from Michter’s and hops from Atlas Brew Works. Each guest gets to take home a cigar from Civil Cigar Lounge as well. Sunday, June 15 at 7 PM. (707 6th Street NW; 202-289-3600)

Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar: If you take Dad for dinner at this Penn quarter spot, he’ll receive a free snifter of Mount Gay Black Barrel Rum AND a Montecristo cigar with his entree. Sunday Caippy Hour will be in effect from 5-7, so he can enjoy $ Caipirinhas and $4 house wine and sangria. Sunday June 15, starting at 4 PM. (801 9th Street NW; 202-408-1600)

Sona Creamery & Wine Bar: Sona Creamery is teaming up with DC Brau for an epic five-course Father’s Day dinner that pairs two of the greatest foodstuffs known to man: beer and CHEESE. You’ll get to sample some of DC Brau’s rarer brews like Daughers of Poisedon Black IPA (paired with grilled steak and pimento) and Model Citizen, an American Cream Ale (paired with apple and cheshire cobbler with smoked cinnamon and Penn Quarter Porter ice cream). YUM. Sunday June 15 at 6 PM. (660 Pennsylvania Ave SE; 202-758-3556)

Mount Vernon Inn: Is your dad a history buff who dragged you to a million dorky living history museums as a kid? Come on, you loved it. Repay him with a history-soaked trip to the Father’s Day Barbeque at the Mount Vernon Inn. One ticket lets you tour George Washington’s home and the distillery and gristmill, where costumed distillers are still making brandy and peach-infused whiskeys the way they did in GW’s time. June 14-15, 10 AM-4 PM. (3200 Mt Vernon Memorial Hwy, Alexandria, VA; 703-780-2000)

Teddy and the Bully Bar: If your dad is less Washington and more Roosevelt, Teddy and the Bully Bar is holding a special Father’s Day brunch. Try the Sailor Boy Martini, a dirty martini made with dill-infused vermouth and Bluecoat Gin spiced with celery salt, cardamom and black pepper. (1200 19th Street NW; 202-872-8700)

Co Co. Sala: For complete dad decadence, Co Co. Sala is having a chocolate, bacon & beer brunch for Father’s Day. He can partake in bacon grilled cheese, french toast s’mores, cheese magic souffle and so much more, all with a bacon bloody mary on the side. (929 F St NW; 202-347-4265)

Art and Soul: Capitol Hill favorite Art and Soul is partnering with Jester King Brewery in Austin, TX for a Texas barbeque on their patio. Slow-smoked brisket, pork ribs, and spicy smoked sausauge will be paired with offerings from the farmhouse brewery like the Noble King Hoppy Ale and the lighter Le Petit Prince Farmhouse Table beer. Saturday, June 14. (415 New Jersey Avenue NW; 202-393-7777)

Churchkey: If Dad rides into town a few days early, take him to Churchkey for their Sour Session, Volume 10: a celebration of 20 sour ales taking over their taps for the evening. They’ll be showcasing different Cantillon Lambics and pouring rare-in-DC brews like the Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza Boreal and collaboration beers like the It’s Still Weisse, a Berliner Weisse from Monarch Brewing Co. and Stillwater. June 11, starting at 4 PM (1337 14th Street NW; 202-567-2576)
