Festivals, Tastings, and Parties to Get Your Holiday Spirits Flowing

Festivals, Tastings, and Parties to Get Your Holiday Spirits Flowing

Here’s our roundup of holiday parties, fashionable places to wear your ugly Xmas sweater, and where to find festive cocktails for the season.

December 11–12
The Ring Building (1200 18th St., NW)
The holiday edition of Drink the District’s many beer festivals will feature three hours of unlimited tastings of over 30 beers and ciders in addition to unlimited full pours of two select beers. Get into the holiday spirit with sweet and savory bites while sampling suds, listening to live music, and browsing the offerings of local exhibitors. General admission tickets are $50; choose between three sessions.

December 13, 1–6 PM
3 Stars Brewery (6400 Chillum Place, NW; 202-670-0333)
Back for its fourth year, 3 Stars Brewing will feature local businesses in what is part holiday market and part holiday bash. Shop from local vendors and artisans while enjoying food and beverages from local chefs, restaurants, and purveyors. Tickets are $15.

December 14, 6–10 PM
Mad Fox Brewery (444 W Broad St., Falls Church; 703-942-6840)
Head to Mad Fox’s Falls Church location for a holiday beer tasting with winter selections from a number of local brewers. Enjoy pours from Virginia breweries including Ocelot, Adroit Theory, Lost Rhino and more. Tickets are $45 with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to a local charity.

December 16, 6:30 PM
Roofer’s Union (2446 18th St., NW; 202-232-7663)
Join 19 local breweries for an ugly sweater holiday party. Taste holiday ales from breweries including Bluejacket, DC Brau, Flying Dog, Mad Fox, Port City, and more while donning your best (worst?) holiday sweater. The event will benefit Mary’s Center Toy Drive, so attendees should plan to bring a toy or small cash donation.

Through December 24
Mockingbird Hill (1843 7th St., NW; 202-316-9396)
What is normally Mockingbird Hill has been transformed into a pop-up Christmas bar open through December 24. Each night of the week brings a different festive activity: Tuesday Holiday Movie Nights, Hanukkah takeovers on Wednesday, Free Cookie Night on Thursdays, Bad Santa Happy Hour on Fridays, and Ugly Xmas Sweater parties on Saturdays. There’s also a special cocktail menu with festive libations such as the “Here We Come A-Wassailing” with mulled brown ale, cream sherry, spices, brown sugar, and roasted apples.

Bibiana (1100 New York Ave, NW; 202-216-9550)
Countdown to Christmas with Bibiana’s 25 Cocktails of Christmas. Beverage Director Tim Hayes has curated a list of seasonally-inspired drinks to help get you into the holiday spirit. Highlights include the Christmas Cookie (espresso, Prosecco grappa, lemon air), Belladonna (bourbon, apple cider, cranberry), the Variopinto (Prosecco grappa, orange, honey, fig, ginger, rosemary tincture), and the Fichi (Maker’s Mark, pureed figs, maple syrup, vanilla sugar). These cocktails are available through the rest of the month.
