Here's Where You'll Be Drinking in D.C. This Summer

by Lanna Nguyen on Jun 20, 2017 in Roundups

When the dog days of summer hit DC, there’s no better way to cool off than with ice cold beers and refreshing cocktails. Check out our list of bars to visit this summer.

Cantina Marina
The popular SW DC bar is a well-known destination for pre and post-Nationals game festivities, but with daily specials (including $10 Corona-ritas, $8 Painkillers and discounted Tecates), al fresco seating, and waterfront views it’s a prime summertime bar. (600 Water St, SW; 202-554-8396)

Game of Thrones Pop-up Bar
Fans of the hit HBO show have another reason to look forward to summertime: Post up at the transformed space (normally Southern Efficiency, Mockingbird Hill and Eat the Rich) and order up themed drinks including the Dothraquiri (rum, oloroso, orgeat, pineapple, lemon, salt), Shame (tequila and grapefruit tonic) and The North Remembers (a Scotch-inspired pina colada). Open June 21 - August 27. (1839-1841 7th St, NW)

Suburbia
From the folks at Buffalo & Bergen comes the vintage airstream bar slinging summertime cocktails at Union Market. The drink menu includes frozen margaritas, frosé, beer and wine. Grab a beverage and time your visit to coordinate with one of the many outdoor activities hosted at Union Market, like the monthly summer Drive-In movies. (1309 5th St, NE)

The Rooftop at Embassy Row Hotel
Take your drinks poolside this summer at The Rooftop of Embassy Row Hotel. Their seasonal cocktail menu features plenty of tropical options to get you into the swing of summer - try the Pineapple Fizze (CIROC Pineapple Vodka, Herradura Blanco Tequila, Homemade Pineapple Syrup, Lime Juice, Ginger Beer, Pineapple Juice) or go all out and order the E-Row Coco: Malibu Coconut Rum, Pineapple Juice, Orange Juice, Cranberry Juice, Fresh Coconut Water served in a real coconut. (2015 Massachusetts Ave, NW; 202-939-4245)

The Salt Line
Navy Yard’s newly opened New England-inspired waterfront restaurant features fresh seafood, raw bar offerings and an array of complementing libations including 24 beers on tap, oyster shooters and specialty drinks including boozie slushies, (try The Del’s Shandy - vodka, lemon, Narragansett Del’s, Cherry Heering). With its prime location near the Capitol Riverfront and Nationals Park, it’s an ideal summertime watering hole. (79 Potomac Ave, SE; 202-506-2368)

Top of the Gate
The outdoor rooftop bar at The Watergate Hotel boasts a great location at the Potomac riverside, panoramic views of the city and the perfect summertime beverage: boozy Hawaiian shaved ice in an array of flavors in two flavors - Silver Fox (coconut milk, almond milk, pineapple juice, Bailey’s) or the 1972 (pineapple, cherry, cassis, limoncello). (2650 Virginia Ave, NW; 202-827-1600)
