by Lanna Nguyen on Oct 24, 2017 in Roundups

Whether you’re looking to go all out or take a tamer approach to Halloween this year, don your best costume and check out these upcoming events and bar happenings celebrating the spooky holiday.

BABA
Celebrate Halloween at the Balkan bar’s Prohibition-themed Costume Party. Pay $5 cover and you’ll receive a complimentary cocktail (Prohibited Secret: bourbon, cinnamon syrup, lemon juice, grapefruit, absinthe spray) and passed hors d’oeuvres (prosciutto croquets, gouda sticks, and bite-sized roasted pumpkin balls to name a few). Dress in your best 1920’s costume for a chance to win prizes like brunch for two at BABA or a $75 bar tab. October 28, 8-11 PM. (2901 Wilson Blvd., Arlington; 703-312-7978)

Espita Mezcaleria
Pop over the Mexican restaurant in Shaw for a week of drink specials, a puppy Halloween costume contest, and a Day of the Dead celebration featuring face painting, food and drink specials and more. (1250 9th St, NW; 202-621-9695)

McClellan’s Retreat
Things are getting spooky at the Dupont Circle  cocktail bar during the month of October. Sip on “Cocktails from the Crypt” including Ding Dong Ditch (Baltimore Whiskey Co. Apple Ginger Liqueur, Ilegal Mezcal, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino), The Walls are Bleeding (beet infused cane rum, Arbellot Cognac, lemon, house made mango ginger shrub, cardamom bitters) and the Punkin Chunkin (Fords Gin, Cotton & Reed Allspice Dram, pumpkin puree, half & half, maple). Cocktails will be available through the month of October. (2031 Florida Ave., NW; 202-265-6270)

Night of the Living Zoo
Get your Boo on at the Zoo and enjoy craft beers, bites from DC’s most popular food trucks, a costume contest and an after-hours look at zoo exhibits and animals. October 27, $40. (3001 Connecticut Ave, NW)

Nightmare on M Street
The infamous bar crawl is back for its 19th iteration. Participating bars include plenty of well-known Dupont Circle establishments including Public Bar, The Big Hunt and Barcode - snag your tickets and enjoy costume contests, prizes, and specials including $3 Coors Lite, $4 Redd’s Wicked Apple Ale and $5 Three Olives Mixed drinks. (Locations vary)

Thai Chef Street Food
The newly revamped Thai spot in Dupont Circle is offering a week of food and drink specials in celebration of Halloween. For $19.99 enjoy a three course meal that includes an appetizer (fried duck roll) choice of entree (pick between the Spooky Roll with eel, avocado, crabstick, eel sauce, and spicy mayo topped with spooky eyes or the khao soi - a northern style chicken curry) and a dessert (pumpkin in coconut milk). Sip on the specialty cocktail Black Venom - a mixture of rums and other potent ingredients served in a black skull. October 23-31.
