6 Don't-Miss Hot Cocktails for Cold Nights

We’re big believers in a cocktail’s ability to warm you up from the inside out, but there are some nights when a cold drink just won’t do. Enter the following collection of hot cocktails, all mulled, brewed and spiced to warm perfection.

The Posh Spice at 1905 Bistro & Bar: Added to the cocktail list just a couple of weeks ago, this is a mulled, house-spiced version of Maryland apple cider served in a snifter with a dash of whiskey. The bar’s cozy ambiance will help warm you up too ($8; 1905 9th St. NW; 202-332-1905).

Pumpkin Chai at Bar Dupont: Enjoy a wintry view of Dupont from inside this strategically located bar on the Circle with this winter warmer. Just $6 during weekday happy hour (regularly priced at $11), the drink combines Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur with Frangelico, pumpkin spice liquor and Captain Morgan for an addictively creamy cocktail (1500 New Hampshire Ave. NW; 202-797-0169).

Spiced Cider at Tabard Inn: Sip your cider fireside in the Tabard Inn’s homey lounge. This version — made with spiced rum, hot apple cider, orange and spices — is kept at the ready in warm coffee pots on cold nights ($10; 1739 N St. NW; 202-331-8528).

Elysium at Poste: Perk up with a mug of this steaming cocktail, which spikes coffee with Inga Amaro spicy liqueur, Luxardo amaretto, Grand Marnier and chocolate bitters. Add a basket of the brasserie’s famous truffle frites or a pot of cheese fondue ($14; 555 8th St. NW; 202-783-6060).

Mulled Wine at Tryst: The mulled wine at this blogger mecca dresses up Spanish Tempranillo with Christian Brothers brandy and a house-made mix of mulling spices, served in a punch cup — it’ll warm you up enough to get through that last (or first) hour of work (2459 18th St. NW; 202-232-5500).

Steamed Spice Daquiri at Bourbon Steak: The lounge attached to the Four Seasons’ eatery features a variety of hot drinks — hot buttered rum, bourbon cider, hot chocolate, and mulled wine — but the Steamed Spice Daiquiri is an unusual choice, with Chairman’s spiced rum, spiced pineapple, star anise and citrus zest (2800 Pennsylvania Ave. NW; 202-944-2026).
