Warm Up at These D.C. Bars with Fireplaces

by Lanna Nguyen on Dec 6, 2016 in Roundups

Warm cocktails, firepits and fireplaces...it’s the coziest time of the year! In addition to the classic standbys, check out some of the newer fireplace options DC has to offer this winter season.

1789
Enjoy dinner at the upscale Georgetown restaurant while enjoying the warmth of the fireplace – for added heat, try one of the seasonal cocktails sure to warm you up from the inside out. (1226 36th St., NW; 202-965-1789)

Bar Civita
Stop in for an Italian-influenced menu and cocktails from this Adams Morgan restaurant while warming up at the wood-burning fireplace located in the dining room. Enjoy homemade cheeses, pastas, charcuterie and more. (2609 24th St, NW; 202-588-1211)

Bonfire
The fire themed restaurant and bar features a menu focused on campfire, cast-iron and wood-smoked technique so it’s no surprise there’s a fireplace nearby. Warm up while enjoying house-made s’mores in a variety of flavors and sipping on cocktails like the You’re Killin Me Smalls - a chocolate infused mezcal drink finished off with roasted marshmallow and maplewood smoke. (1132 19th St, NW; 202-833-1860)

Dirty Habit
Formerly Poste, Dirty Habit will keep with the winter tradition and open its Winter Lounge, to be called Dirty Habit Firescape, on 12/8. Thursday - Saturday all winter long, guests can sip on warm cocktails (like the Chai Me Up! made with amaro, cognac and Chai syrup) while heating up by the fire pits. If the weather gets too chilly, head into the fully enclosed patio - outdoor lounge area will only be open in 45+ degree weather. (700 F St, NW; 202-783-6060)

Halfsmoke
This new fast-casual spot in Shaw offers up customizable sausages and flatbreads in addition to not one, not two, but three fireplaces. Other reasons to check out Halfsmoke? Childhood nostalgia in the form of epic milkshakes (which can be made with or without booze) VHS tape containers as check holders, a photobooth, outdoor patio, and a spacious bar with large screen TVs. (651 Florida Ave, NW; 202-986-2079)

Iron Gate
Dine inside and sidle up to the brick fireplace or take your drinks al fresco at the courtyard and keep warm by the fire pits. Get extra toasty with the Yannis Appleseed made with Applejack, Cynar, Orleans Bitter, Ouzo, Finochietto, and cider - served warm. (1734 N St, NW; 202-524-5202)

Kinship
As if you needed another reason to check out Eric Ziebold’s Michelin one-star restaurant, sample modern American dishes while keeping warm by the fireplace located in the bar and lounge area. (1015 7th St, NW; 202-737-7700)

La Chaumiere
Modeled after a French country inn, the rustic Georgetown restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere only enhanced by the large stone fireplace in the main dining room. Enjoy French classics like baked onion soup, steak au poivre, and escargot. (2813 M St, NW; 202-338-1784)

Tabard Inn
You’d be hard pressed to find a cozier spot in DC than the lounge area of one of DC’s oldest hotels. Enjoy cocktails in the lounge next to the crackling fire while taking in live jazz music (every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings). (1739 N St, NW; 202-785-1277)
