A Washington Distillery Makes Pickle Vodka and We're Into It

by Jessie Donofrio on Sep 12, 2017 in Liquor

Blue Spirits Distilling has created a 120-proof, pickle flavored vodka that is just begging to be poured into your next Bloody Mary.

Inspired by the delicious, but polarizing pickleback shot, Blue Spirits decided they wanted to add pickle flavor to their portfolio of flavored vodkas which already include pepper, cucumber, grapefruit and espresso. Visitors of the distillery’s tasting room can try the dill-flavored drink and, according to Delish, are often surprised they actually like it. The liquor is salty yet smooth and apparently one taster has even likened it to eating a fresh pickle.

Heidi Soehren, co-owner of the distillery, told Delish,“The higher proof has a more enhanced flavor and aroma—when applied as a topper to a cocktail, you get a delightful burst of flavor and scent at first taste.” Blue Spirits suggests topping off a Bloody Mary with 1/4 oz of the briny vodka after using a plain flavored vodka to make the base of your bloody. Other uses could be a pickle dirty martini with a gherkin garnish, or just drinking it straight up.

The liquor comes in 50ml bottles which are sealed with green wax reminiscent of a pickle. Right now, it is only available to buy directly from the source for $12.50 per bottle. They’re selling about 600 bottles a month of the stuff, so hopefully, due to its popularity, you might see some pickle vodka in your local liquor store soon.
