B Too Brings More Beer to Logan Circle
Top Chef and Belga Café toque Bart Vandaele describes B Too, his new Belgian restaurant on 14th Street, as the “naughty uncle” to the original "Belgian bistro with attitude” on Barracks Row. At his latest, the brand ambassador for Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe reimagines Belgian classics (fried frog legs served lollipop style, anyone?) alongside a seriously insane beer list — because, as Bart himself would tell you, “everything with ‘B’ is better.”
While not as extensive as neighbor Churchkey’s beer selection, the list at B Too delivers on rare finds and attention to detail. The list will eventually include around 250 brews, including 12 rotating drafts that will be available by the bottle as well. The collection is still being stocked, but don’t worry: at least 115 are available now, all served in unique glassware custom to the particular brew. Want to impress a cool beer tidbit? Check out how the small etched letter on the bottom of Duvel’s chalice funnels the carbonation up the center, enhancing the flavor and releasing aroma in the process.
We’re especially looking forward to trying B Too Ale, which chef Bart describes as a light and flavorful unfiltered Pilsner designed to be “very drinkable,” especially pre-meal. Barrels are reportedly “on the boat” and expected to be poured in the coming weeks.
Other noteworthy features of the bar and restaurant include Bart’s own beer pairing guide (viewable on the beer list), and two forthcoming services. Curbside cuisine will involve waffles and frites served from a front window that expands toward the street, while the party brunch — which will involve DJs and bottle services — is Bart’s plan for “stepping up his game” when it comes to his already-heralded mastery of midday indulgence.
Parting advice: Get yourself a glass of the Deus Brut Des Flanders — the bubbly Belgian ale is described as the “Dom Perignon of beer” and is an interesting departure from the usual suspects.
