D.C.'s Best Wine Bars

by Lanna Nguyen on May 29, 2019 in Roundups

Whether you’re a wino or a wine novice, DC is home to a number of wine bars perfect for casual sipping or for expanding your palate. Check out some of our not-to-be-missed wine bars below.

Equal parts music venue, restaurant and winery, the Ivy City winery offers over 400 wine bottle selections, in addition to pours by the glass and wines on tap. Sip on your choice of vintage from the second floor wine garden - a cozy space perfect for dining (shareable options include flatbreads, cheeses and cured meats) before hitting the main venue space for a concert or show. (1350 Okie St, NE; 202-250-2531)

The woman-owned wine bar highlights natural wine on its menu selection. If you've ever wanted to taste and learn more about natural wine, saddle up to the bar and choose from 100 varieties made from organic or biodynamically farmed grapes with little to no additives. Pop by during happy hour, 5-7pm on weekdays for seasonal specials. (904 H Street, NE; 202-506-3103)

DC's first winery offers over 15 wines by the glass and seasonal American fare at its restaurant, Ana, open for lunch, brunch and dinner. Vino lovers can indulge in discounted glasses of wine during happy hour and snag half price bottles every Wednesday from 3:30-10pm. Guests can also sign up for a tour of the urban winery to learn about the wine-making process and end with a tasting of seven of the Winery’s varietals. (385 Water St, SE; 202-484-9210)

Tucked into the busy and energetic streets of Chinatown, escape the hubbub at the intimate wine bar with a curated list of global varietals. The cozy space features moody lighting and an internationally-inspired food menu to pair with wine by the flight, glass or bottle - with everything from natural, new and old world wines. (777 6th St, NW; 202-864-6445)

The French-inspired wine bar recently expanded from its original Shaw location to include an outpost at popular Union Market. At either location, you'll find French favorites on the food menu (think charcuterie, foie gras, crepes and terrines) as well as an impressive list of French wines, beers and ciders. (1550 7th St, NW; 202-627-2988)

The playful Shaw wine bar offers over 50 wines by the glass with some on rotation based on monthly themes. The core wine list also includes a selection of whites, reds and sherry - you'll also find Port, Madeira, cocktails and beer on the drink menu. Pair your glass of wine with small bites including caviar, burrata, chorizo and other shareable snacks. (1336 9th St, NW; 202-792-9522)
