Coming Soon: La Colombe on Shaw's Blagden Alley
The latest buzz from inside the Beltway has a new cafe from Philadelphia based coffee concern La Colombe opening in any second in D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood. This coffee shop is the first of at least six new projects the 20-year-old company, whose founder and president Todd Carmichael, aka the "Godfather of the Artisanal Coffee Movement," is the star of Travel Channel's program Dangerous Grounds, has in the pipeline for 2014.
Situated in a former stable along Blagden Alley next door to Rogue 24, the new caffination station will feature two 22 foot glass-paned garage-style doors that will be open in warmer weather, soaring ceilings, and an enormous bar that runs the length of the building.
As far as the actual coffee is concerned, La Colombe will offer its highly coveted beans in a variety of formats. Those range from more traditional brewing means to a brand, spanking new state of the art Steampunk by Alpha Dominche, which is capable of emulating everything from pour-over and French press to the uber-geeky siphon technique. Only five of these machines exist in the United States, and La Colombe owns them all. There’s also a chance that in the not-so-distant future, La Colombe will add it’s pressed Pure Black on draft, another first for D.C.
