Bluejacket Brewery Launching Weekly Tour Programs

Bluejacket Brewery, the sprawling restaurant and craft beer concern that just opened last October in a former munitions manufacturing warehouse in the Navy Yard is getting ready to begin hosting tours of its 5,600-square foot facility on Fridays and Saturdays beginning on January 31.

Just like the lucky golden ticket winners in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, tours will give visitors an intimate and all-access look at the goings on behind the scenes at the brewery, only without the bratty kids and Oompa Loompas. The tours, which are available in three different formats, will cover Bluejacket’s 19 distinct fermentation vessels including the coolship, as well as, the sour (aka Funky Town) and non-sour barrel aging rooms.

Free tours will be held on Fridays and Saturdays beginning at 10:30 AM. Each one will run about 20 to 30 minutes, and include a walk-through of the brewery’s three mezzanines with Bluejacket staff providing insight into each step of the brewing process from grain to glass. Afterwards, tour-goers will gather in the Arsenal bar for complimentary pour of one of the beers brewed on premises.

At the next level, Bluejacket Tasting Tours will be held at 2:30 and 3 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. The guided tours include a trip through the brewing facilities with five stops along the way where tour-goers will enjoy samples of beer, including a tank sample of one of the beers that’s in progress. These tours are limited to 20, cost $22 per person and require reservations.

Next up is the Bluejacket Beer & Food Experience, which the brewery’s reps say is the ultimate expression of the relationship between beer and food at Bluejacket and its Arsenal bar. These tours are available on Saturdays only at 4:30 PM. After a full tour of the facilities that includes five pours and tank tastings, guests will convene in the private mezzanine dining room, which overlooks the restaurant and bar, to enjoy a four-course beer dinner featuring the cooking of the Arsenal’s Executive Chef Kyle Bailey, Chef de Cuisine Dan Hahndorf and Pastry Chef Tiffany MacIsaac. Beer Director Greg Engert will hand select the signature Bluejacket beers to accompany the meal. The Bluejacket Beer & Food Experience is priced at $75 per person, not including tax and gratuity.

For more on the tours or to book a reservation, visit Bluejacket’s website, or call 202-524-4862.
