Washington D.C.'s Best Beers For Summertime Sipping
Hot summer nights call for cold local brews. Breweries have been popping up around the DC area, offering go-to year round favorites along with seasonal selections that hit the spot. Here are six local DC area breweries providing seasonal brews to cheer all summer long.
3 Stars Brewing Company (6400 Chillum Pl NW; 202-670-0333)
Like most breweries, 3 Star Brewing Company came from humble beginning consisting of two friends with the same passion and home brewing. This summer 3 Stars is featuring The Danny Green, a well balanced citrusy double IPA with a smooth dry finish. Be sure to check out the newly remodeled tasting room.
Atlas Brew Works (2052 West Virginia Ave NE #102; 202-832-0420)
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks, and don’t forget The 1500 South Cap Lager! Atlas Brew Works is brewing this twist on German tradition exclusively for National’s Park. If you’re watching the game from your favorite bar instead, you can also enjoy a new for summer Home Run which is a light and summery india pale lager made with Waimea hops from New Zealand.

DC Brau’s tasting room is currently closed and undergoing significant renovation with hopes of opening in July. Have no fear, you can still find DC Brau brews at your favorite bars, restaurants and retailers.
Lost Rhino Brewing Company (21730 Red Rum Dr #142, Ashburn, VA; 571-291-2083)
If you’re looking for the best flights in DMV, cruise over to Lost Rhino where there’s nightly live music, delicious food and several seasonal specials. This summer’s featured brews include Ice Breaker, an American imperial IPA with citrusy hop bitterness and malty sweetness; Final Glide, Bavarian-style unfiltered wheat hefeweizen with notes of banana and clove; RhinO’fest, malty flavored Marzen amber lager with a clean dry finish; Woody Stout, soaked in bourbon oak barrels from Bowman’s distillery in Fairfax, this stout tastes of roasted malts and herbal hops with the aroma of coffee and spicy chocolate.
Port City Brewing Company (3950 Wheeler Ave.; 703-797-2739)
Across the river and up the cobblestone road you’ll find Port City in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. Summertime sadness is no where to be found at this very popular tasting room where they’re serving up Ways and Means, a session IPA with complex hop flavors that are complemented by the addition of rye.
Flying Dog Brewery (4607 Wedgewood Blvd, Frederick, MD; 301-694-7899)
Flying Dog Brewery is also a great destination if you’re looking to leave city life behind for the day. Known for their unique brews and distinct label artwork, Maryland’s largest brewery provides a lively taproom with outdoor seating and tours by reservation. Two new summer beers includes the Easy IPA offering aromas of grapefruit, lemon, and pine hop notes balanced with crisp cracker malt. The second is Seasonal Woody Creek, which is light and refreshing with subtle wheat, coriander and orange flavors.
