A McDonald's in South Korea Will Be the First in Asia to Offer Beer
At one “premium” McDonald’s location in South Korea, you can now get a beer to go with your Big Mac.
Burgers and beer are a recent food pairing trend to pop up in South Korea, and now, one McDonald’s is looking to attract cooler, younger customers by offering a “burmaek,” which is what a burger/beer deal is called there (the term is a portmanteau of the word “burger” and the word “maekju,” which means “beer” in Korean). You can only get the beer if you order the “signature burger” combo, but why would you pair it with anyone else?
McDonald’s already serves alcohol in several European countries, but this is its first venture down this particular path within Asia, and if it’s successful, we may see more pop up across the continent. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll be able to pair a Big Mac with a brew here in the US.
