The District is set to get a new rum distillery with the opening of Cotton & Reed Distillery near Union Market. Adding to the growing list of local distilleries, Cotton & Reed will focus on rum, becoming the first distillery of its kind in the city.
Noticing a void in the local spirits market, friends and former NASA consultants
Jordan Cotton and
Reed Walker joined forces three years ago with plans of opening a rum distillery. Now, the pair are eyeing a June opening, with construction finishing up on the 3,300 square foot warehouse which will serve as headquarters for production operations (featuring a custom designed 500-gallon still) as well as housing a tasting room and bar.
Chas Jefferson has been tapped as chief distiller and
Lukas Smith (currently at
Dram & Grain) will head the cocktail program.
When the doors open, you can expect to find rotating draft cocktails at the bar, utilizing Cotton & Reed’s dry spiced rum and white rum.
