Where to Find the Best Bar Snacks in DC

by Lanna Nguyen on Jan 10, 2017 in Roundups

Whether you’re drinking beer, cocktails, wine or your favorite spirit, there’s nothing quite like awesome bar food to go with your drink of choice. Check out our picks for best bar snacks, and we even have some tips on spots where you can score some complimentary munchies.

Archipelago
Get tropical with pina coladas and other island-themed drinks at this U St Tiki bar. While you’re sipping on mai tais and daiquiris, order up some Polynesian favorites like shrimp toast and ham and cheese sliders made with King Hawaiian rolls, mustard butter, ham, gruyere and cheddar. (1201 U St, NW; 202-627-0794)

Be adventurous and sample the bone marrow tots (with an added kick of flavor from the popular spud snack), or stick to traditional bar fare and opt for the sliders, truffle mac and cheese or hush puppies. (1132 19th St, NW; 202-833-1860)

China Chilcano
Fans of dim sum should head to Jose Andres’ Peruvian-Asian fusion restaurant on Tuesdays for discounted orders of traditional Siu Mai, Ha Kao and other Chifa bites. Pair your dim sum with delicious Pisco cocktails. (418 7th St, NW; 202-783-0941)

El Chucho
Head to this Columbia Heights taqueria for their version of Mexican grilled corn. The Elote Callejero, aka “street style” corn on the cob, is loaded with brown-butter aioli, chili-lime salt, cotija cheese and cilantro. Get it for $2.50 during happy hour and pair with $3 tacos. (3313 11th St, NW; 202-290-3313)

Ghibellina
For Neapolitan-inspired pizzas, Ghibellina has you covered. The Italian gastro-pub offers a number of their pies during happy hour for just $10. The fun part? All pizzas come equipped with scissors for cutting tableside. (1610 14th St, NW; 202-803-2389)

Ivy and Coney
The Shaw sports bar offers wallet-friendly bar snacks in the form of hot dogs - choose from multiple variations including Coney Dogs, Chicago Dogs, Bratwurst and Italian Beef. Nothing goes better with dogs than chili fries and nachos, so be sure to add those sides to your order while cheering on the Cubs and Lions. Bonus: they offer free peanuts. (1537 7th St, NW; 202-670-9489)

Old Glory
For nachos, the Georgetown BBQ joint’s version of the crowd pleasing appetizer combines tortilla chips, fritos, cheddar cheese, chipotle fire sauce, guacamole, sour cream, cucumber pico and the option to add chili, pork, brisket or chicken to create one large, messy, delicious plate. (3139 M St, NW; 202-337-3406)

Pop’s Seabar
Seafood enthusiasts should check out the boardwalk themed menu at Pop’s, with fried oysters, peel ‘n eat shrimp, and crab cakes. The real bar snack to try out? Smelts - fried and served with pickled hot peppers. (1817 Columbia Rd, NW; 202-534-3933)

Free Snacks:
Jackpot
This low-key basement bar in Chinatown offers free popcorn during all hours. (726 7th St, NW; 202-628-5225)

The Front Page
One-upping Taco Tuesday, this Dupont Circle bar offers a free taco bar on Thursdays starting at 6 PM until supplies last. (1333 New Hampshire Ave, NW; 202-296-6500)

Hank’s Oyster Bar
The popular oyster bar serves up free goldfish for snacking on before you tackle oysters, lobster rolls, clams and more. (1624 Q St, NW; 202-462-4265)
