Here's Where You Should Go for National Tequila Day in D.C.
National Tequila Day is around the corner on Monday, July 24! With plenty of ways to celebrate in the city, we’ve whittled down the options to include some of our favorite spots as well as a new up and coming bar featuring inventive cocktails starring the distilled liquor.
Take in sunset views at Cantina Marina
A classic spot for summertime drinking, the outdoor patio bar offers a relaxed atmosphere, sweeping waterfront views and plenty of beverages where tequila is the main star. The frozen margaritas are pretty good (choose between lime, strawberry, raspberry or mango flavored), but the real deal is the Escalade Margarita: a frozen Sauza Reposado with a mini bottle of Grand Marnier. It will set you back $17, but it’s absolutely worth it to celebrate National Tequila Day with. (600 Water St, SW; 202-554-8396)
If you’ve spent much time in DC, chances are you’ve probably experienced the glory that is a swirl margarita at Lauriol Plaza. The infamous drink at the Dupont Circle Tex-Mex eatery comes with your choice of strawberry, mango, or lime swirled into a perfect frozen concoction. This year, National Tequila Day falls on a Monday - which happens to serendipitously align with Lauriol Plaza’s Margarita Monday special; grab a glass for $4.95, a half pitcher for $14.95 or go full monty with a pitcher for $28.95 - the special is available all.day.long. (1835 18th St, NW; 202-387-0035)
The hip rooftop lounge is known for having some of the best views in the city. Soak in the DC skyline while sipping on the Carded on the Rocks, a specialty cocktail comprised of patron Anejo, allspice dram, cardamom pineapple and lemon. (515 15th St, NW; 202-661-2400)
The Bloomingdale bar is serving up nothing but tiki drinks all through July and August. The hotel-inspired cocktail lounge recently revamped its cocktail menu featuring Bar Manager Brian Nixon’s take on tiki classics like the Mai Tai. But on National Tequila Day, opt for the “Picked This Up in Mexico” made with Tequila Cabeza, Ilegal Joven Mezcal, Agave nectar, grapefruit, lime and ginger. (251 Florida Ave, NW; 202-733-4952)
