Just like that, summer is coming to an end. It’s about time to say goodbye to the dog days of August; close out the season with these BBQs, Cook-offs, Festivals and more.
Beer-B-Q at Hank’s Oyster Bar
Back for its fourth year, Hank’s on the Hill’s annual Beer-B-Q will offer guests unlimited BBQ dishes like Fried Chicken, Baby Back Ribs, Pimento Grilled Cheese Bites, Mac & Cheese, Key Lime Pie and more. Nothing pairs with BBQ better than ice cold beer and Hank’s will be serving up brews from Atlas Brew Works exclusively. August 19, 11 AM - 3 PM; Tickets are $50. Head to The Bullpen for the inaugural Capital Chili Cook-off and enjoy unlimited samples of beer from local breweries (including 3 Stars Brewing, DC Brau, Atlas and Right Proper to name a few), take in some live music, taste chili from the DMV’s best chili cooks and help decide who will represent DC in the World Chili Cook-off Championship in October. Bonus: for every ticket sold, $10 will be donated to DC firefighter Dane Smothers who was injured in the line of duty earlier this month. August 19, 3 - 6 PM; Tickets starting at $45. DC Beer Week kicks off the week of August 20 and to spearhead the festivities, Buffalo & Bergen and Suburbia are convening the DMV’s top breweries, cideries and meaderies for an afternoon of local brews, music and food. August 20, 2 - 5 PM; Tickets starting at $15. (1309 5th St, NE)
Head to City Tap House for the third annual crabfest and feast on unlimited Maryland blue crabs, hushpuppies and jambalaya rice at the restaurant’s “Beach Patio” with real sand, frozen drinks and live music. September 4, 11:30 AM - 3 PM; Tickets are $50. (901 9th St, NW; 202-644-9433)
In celebration of its first birthday, the DC location of the Cuban cafe will be hosting a Pina Colada Festival with limited edition menu items including specialty pina colada flavors, pina colada sangria and pina colada popsicles. No better way to celebrate the end of summer than with frozen, boozy pina coladas in drink and popsicle form. August 21 - 27. (1405 T St, NW; 202-332-8800)
August typically calls for a hot and humid forecast, but from August 18 - September 3, National Harbor will cool things down with its Summer Snow Globe featuring refreshing cocktails, live music from some of DC’s popular bands (think Magic GIant and White Ford Bronco) and real snow (yes, you read that correctly, real snow). Your winter oasis awaits. Tickets can be purchased for weekend admission; starting at $10.
