Here's What You'll Be Drinking at Chefs for Equality, September 19

by Lanna Nguyen on Sep 18, 2017 in Roundups

On September 19, the sixth annual Chefs for Equality will convene the area’s top pastry chefs, chefs and mixologists at Union Market’s Dock 5 for an evening to honor the LGBTQ community and celebrating equal rights for all. A fundraiser event for the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, Chefs for Equality will feature over 120 chefs and 23 mixologists offering tastings and cocktails; the event will also include eight personal chef tables (giving foodies an opportunity to enjoy a five-course meal and a more personal experience during the event), as well as an auction. The impressive food offerings will be complemented by a stellar lineup of cocktails including homemade soda from the Two Birds One Stone and Jagermeister infused gelati from Dolci Gelati. In anticipation of the event, we’re sharing a sneak peek of a few of the cocktails you’ll be sipping on at the event.

Dolci Gelati
Exclusive for the event, the artisanal gelato shop’s chef, Gianluigi Dellagio will be working with Jagermeister to create a special infused Gelati flavor.

Quarter+Glory
Head bartender, William Brancati, will be utilizing Tambour from Benin in his cocktail Feel the Rhythm, Feel the Beet - the West African spirit has hints of hibiscus, dates, honey and other tropical fruits and spices and will be mixed with carrot, lemon, ginger and beet juices along with cinnamon syrup.

Republic Restoratives
The woman-owned distillery and craft cocktail bar in Ivy CIty will be featuring two cocktails - The Feminist Gent made with their Civic Vodka (distilled with corn and polished with charcoal), Luna Amara from Don Ciccio & Figli, lime, orange, ginger and soda; and the Vodka Colada - the distillery’s take on the classic Pina Colada, again featuring their Civic Vodka in addition to lime, pineapple, and coconut cream.

The Bird
For The Bird’s cocktail offering, bar manager Christian Johnston will mix up a Red Wine Old Fashioned with MarionBerry whiskey sourced from Oregon. Made from the sweet, tart marion berry, the whiskey’s unique flavor lends itself well to the cocktail’s other ingredients: a red wine reduction, Peychaud’s Bitters and orange bitters.

Two Birds One Stone
A seemingly simple offering, Adam Bernbach’s Vodka Soda is actually a complex work of art - the soda is homemade using freshly shredded and grated coconut, fresh ground cardamom, ginger, and cinchona bark (a plant native to the tropical Andean forest in western South America) - all of the ingredients are mixed, carbonated and served with Smirnoff Vodka to finish off the cocktail.
