Where to Celebrate World Gin Day in D.C.
Columbia Room
Grab a friend and head to the recently minted “Best American Cocktail Bar” to split a gin drink for two, the Beneath the Seven Seas: apple brandy, navy strength gin, pale cream sherry, seaweed honey, honeydew, lime and celery shrub and ambergris. $32. (124 Blagden Alley, NW; 202-316-9396)
The Gin Joint
Gin reigns supreme at the Woodley Park cocktail bar - choose your gin, a housemade tonic (eight varieties including Lemon-Thai Basil, Blood Orange-Saffron, and Pomegranate-Cubeb) and sit back and enjoy your gin drink. If you’re having a hard time deciding what to choose, order up a gin flight for $19. (2317 Calvert St, NW; 202-234-4110)
Graffiato
Toast to National Gin Day by trying not one, but three takes on DC’s official cocktail, the gin rickey, at Mike Isabella’s Italian restaurant. A summery version, Jackson’s Ginvasion, incorporates gin, Amero Amaro, blackberry, lemon, pistachio bitters and prosecco. All rickeys are priced at $13. (707 6th St, NW; 202-289-3600)
Service Bar
The fried chicken and cocktail bar’s current gin offerings include five cocktails (in addition to a seasonal gin cocktail) - try The Bloomingdale with galangal infused gin, berry/aged apple cider vinegar shrub, lemon, egg foam and absinthe spritz or opt for a twist on the classic G&T: the Baked Apple & Pear Gin & Tonic, made with gin, apple and pear tonic, lime and soda. Enjoy your cocktail with live jazz every Tuesday from 8-10PM (926 U St, NW; 202-462-7232)
The Betsy
Follow the chicken feet down an alley off of Barracks Row’s main street and you’ll stumble upon the cute rooftop gin garden. Choose from over 25 varieties of gin and sip on craft cocktails accented with herbs grown out on the garden. (514 8th St, SE; 202-544-0100)
