The Best Spots to Drink Tequila in D.C.

by Lanna Nguyen on Apr 10, 2018 in Roundups

Whether you prefer your tequila in shot form or mixed in a cocktail, there are plenty of great bars and restaurants serving up the spirit.

The Shaw Mezcaleria serves up authentic Southern Mexican dishes to go along with an impressive list of mezcal and tequila cocktails. Try the Palo Alto with Tequila, Alpine Liqueur, Blanc Vermouth, Blueberry and Alpine Amaro or opt for a flight to taste a wider variety of the spirit. Flights range from $25 - $35 and are served with orange slices and sal de gusano. (1250 9th St, NW; 202-621-9695)

The recently-opened restaurant on the Wharf features high-end Mexican plates to go along with tequila-based cocktails, six different varieties of margaritas, and a vast selection of blancos, reposados, and anejos among other agaves. Swing by during happy hour (Monday - Friday, 4 - 7PM) to score select cocktails for just $6 - including their version of a frozen margarita with Sauza Blue Blanco, Mango, Ginger, Passion Fruit, Agave and Fresh Squeezed Lime. (98 District Square SW, 202-516-4656)

Todd English’s downtown restaurant offers a massive tequila list with over 100 different types - from blancos, reposados, and anejos, find them all at MXDC. Every Wednesday, parties of four can opt in for a special three-course dinner accompanied with a 25-oz bottle of premium tequila - which amounts to four shots per person and can be mixed into a margarita or enjoyed as a shot. (600 14th St, NW; 202-393-1900)

Jose Andres’ mexican kitchen offers eight different margaritas in addition to a wide selection of individual tequilas - opt for the original Oyamel Margarita. The popular drink is known for its “salt air” foam that tops off the refreshing mix of Milagro Blanco, Combier L’Original, and Lime. (401 7th St, NW; 202-628-1005)

The 14th Street spot from Michael Schlow features a roster of well over 100 types of tequila. Select one from the list or opt for a flight and receive a rotating selection from the tequila or mezcal list for $20. (1926 14th St, NW; 202-319-1400)
