Where to Treat Your Mom on Mother's Day in DC

by Lanna Nguyen on May 1, 2018 in Roundups

From floral arranging tutorials to cooking classes, bottomless brunches and everything in between, we’ve got plenty of options for where to treat your mom on Mother’s Day!

Join well-known florist, Sidra Forman, for an afternoon of tea, seasonal pastries and instruction on how to compose the perfect springtime floral arrangement. Tickets are $65 and include flowers, vase and afternoon tea. (800 16th St, NW; 202-638-6600)

Treat your mom to a meal filled with Southern-inspired dishes with a Nordic twist at Honeysuckle. Try dishes such as Pan Seared Scottish Fjord Trout, Ahi Tuna Tartare with “Everything Bagel” Wonton, Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras and Fromage Blanc Cheesecake among other items. The special a la carte menu will be available May 13 from 1-6 PM. (1990 M St, NW: 202-659-1990)

Papas will take a backseat and Mamas will reign supreme at the downtown poke shop on Mother’s Day—bring your mom (or show a photo of her) when you order your favorite “mama” sized (re: regular sized) poke bowl and score a baby bowl to go along with it. While you’re there, test out the two new sauces recently added to the lineup: Miso Garlic Honey and Mango Chili Lime. (826 H St, NW; 202-393-7653)

Get fancy and take your mom to tea at the rooftop bar of the Kimpton’s Mason & Rook Hotel, Radiator. Soak in the city views while sipping on boozy tea and noshing on traditional finger sandwiches—the playfully named “mom-osa” bar will also be available throughout the tea party. May 13, 1-5PM. (1430 Rhode Island, Ave, NW; 202-742-3150)

The two-story wine bar will offer a special Mother’s Day brunch menu. Enjoy a two course meal (with the option of adding on a wine pairing or bottomless mimosas and bloody marys for $15) with dishes including Duck Confit Chilaquiles, Vanilla Bean French Toast, Chicken + Waffles and more. (2404 Wisconsin Ave, NW; 202-333-4304)

Go all out and pamper your mom with an extravagant buffet brunch from the St. Regis’ new Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, Alhambra. An a la carte menu will also be available in addition to the buffet—end the meal with afternoon tea and sweet treats from the hotel’s pastry team and all moms will walk away with a special gift to take home. $79 per person or $99 with a beverage package. (923 16th St, NW; 202-509-8000)

Take mom to a traditional dim sum brunch on Mother’s Day–in addition to the regular Dim Sum Brunch menu (typically only served on Saturdays), enjoy specials including 24-oz bone-in rib eye steak with Sichuan steak sauce, whole roasted duckling with steamed buns, and Maine lobster with xo-chili sauce. The day before Mother’s Day, learn how to make the restaurant’s signature dumplings from Chef Russell Smith (and then recreate these in the kitchen for your mom!). Tickets to the cooking class are $100 and include table-side cocktails as well as a brunch following the class. (575 Pennsylvania Ave, NW; 202-637-6100)

Indulge in bottomless champagne at the Dupont Circle restaurant’s Bouquet and Bubbles class. Take mom with you or keep it a secret and surprise her with your beautifully-arranged bouquet, which you’ll get to take home in a cute vase after the class. Tickets are $37 and include two hours of champagne and floral arranging time, along with your bouquet and vase. (1207 19th St, NW; 202-420-9666)

If you’ve got a mom who enjoys charcuterie, take her to Urban Butcher’s aptly named Carnivore’s Brunch. Great for larger groups, the endless brunch experience will extend its hours on Mother’s Day through 5 PM and features an “all you can eat” selection of roasted meats and sausages in addition to mimosas and lavender margaritas. Brunch priced at $45 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under. (8226 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring; 301-585-5800)
