Where to Raise a Glass on National Wine Day in D.C.

by Lanna Nguyen on May 15, 2018 in Roundups

May 25 marks National Wine Day, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by raising a glass of vino at one of our favorite wine bars below!

The two story wine bar on 14th Street doubles as a market, offering guests a unique experience. Head upstairs to sip on over 50 wines by the glass to pair with small plates and charcuterie. The first floor houses the market portion where you can shop over 300 selections of wine, specialty food items and other prepared foods. (1805 14th St, NW; 202-265-2675)

The cozy basement wine bar is an offshoot of the Michelin-starred restaurant The Dabney, and features a range of wines, wines by the glass, shareable plates, a raw bar, and cheese and charcuterie. The intimate atmosphere is perfect for date night although the Cellar does not take reservations and is on first come, first served basis. (1222 9th St, NW)

The female-owned wine bar on H Street showcases natural wines made from organic or biodynamically farmed grapes. Sip on a selection of 30 wines that are rotated frequently and enjoy with charcuterie, snacks like olives, pickles and spiced nuts, and other small bites. (904 H St, NE; 202-506-3103)

DC’s first winery offers over 15 wines by the glass and seasonal American fare at its restaurant, Ana. Come by for lunch, brunch, dinner or happy hour where select glasses of wine are discounted to $8. Take a tour of the urban winery to learn about the wine-making process and end with a tasting of seven of the Winery’s varietals. (385 Water St, SE; 202-484-9210)

The Chinatown wine lounge features a wine list with over 500 selections in addition to 28 wine flights and 40 wines by the glass. The dinner menu focuses on local and seasonal ingredients with items including Tuna Crudo, Braised Octopus, Burrata and Crispy Potatoes. Beginning in June, Flight will be hosting a Summer Wine Tasting Series highlighting selected winemakers from around the world. (777 6th St, NW; 202-864-6445)

From the team behind Rose’s Luxury, Little Pearl operates as a coffee shop by day and transforms into a wine bar in the evening. Enjoy over 20 wines by the glass with snacks like Raw Oyster & Citrus, Smoked Eel in Aspic, Corned Beef Lengua Tacos or opt for “Dinner” dishes The Little Pearl Burger and Classic Moules Marinieres. The Wine Bar opens at 5:30PM Tuesday - Saturday. (921 Pennsylvania Ave, SE; 202-618-1868)

The Parisian-inspired wine bar located in Brookland offers 75 wines and 15 wines by the glass - all are from natural wine producers located in France and the U.S. True to its French roots, dishes at the restaurant are reminiscent of classic bistro fare including French Onion Soup, Braised Duck Leg, and Steak Frites. (3000 12th St, NE; 202-248-4558)

Sip on your choice of sparkling, whites, reds, and roses from Vinoteca’s extensive wine list. The menu includes charcuterie and cheeses, crostinis, tapenade, salads and other shareable dishes - get your drink, order a few snacks and take it out to the Plaza where there’s a full bocce court. (1940 11th St, NW; 202-332-9463)
