Spend Your Summer Days & Nights at These D.C. Bars

Summer in the city is the best time of the year where rooftop drinking, colorful sips, and frozen cocktails are the name of the game. Check out some of our top picks for where you should be eating and drinking this summer.

The Cuban restaurant and cafe recently opened its colorful roofdeck earlier this spring. Head to the rooftop garden for Havana-inspired sippers including daiquiris, mojitos, sparkling pineapple sangria and the Babalu: white rum, passion fruit, palo santo syrup, and lime. Happy hour runs Monday-Friday from 4-7PM and is all day Thursday (4PM - close) - snag $6 cocktails and $2 empanadas. (1405 T St, NW; 202-332-8800)

The vibrant rooftop taqueria will transport you to a coastal oasis filled with tacos, salsas, margaritas and slushies. Soak in all of the beachy vibes courtesy of the bar’s bright hues, funky wall art and colorful bar stools while sipping on Mexican beers, frozen margaritas, and Baja-inspired specialty cocktails. (1905 9th St, NW; 202-299-0381)

The hip Shaw rooftop bar features colorful flora and greenery - the perfect backdrop for snapping those Instagram pics to show off your margaritas, mojitos and caipirinhas in addition to tasty (and photogenic) plates including an assortment of tacos, ceviche, seafood paella, and Mexican style street corn. (606 Florida Ave, NW; 202-836-4270)

The dockside offshoot of the popular Navy Yard destination, Osteria Morini, features waterside views to go along with a menu full of boardwalk favorites with an Italian spin. Head to the order counter and choose from items including gelato ice cream sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie, focaccia paninis, and arancini - perfectly paired with a Peroni or Frozen Negroni. (301 Water St, SE)

Head to the rooftop of the trendy Foggy Bottom hotel for fun seasonal cocktails including the highly Instagrammable froze, frozen margaritas, and local beers from Hellbender, Right Proper, Devil’s Backbone, and 3 Stars Brewing. If hunger hits, order up a pie from local chain, &Pizza. (2224 F St, NW; 202-849-8499)

The oyster and ale house from Chef Kyle Bailey is the perfect spot for weekend drinking and pre/post-Nationals game snacks. The recently expanded outdoor area comes with a large bar and covered patio seating in addition to lounge sets. New additions to the cocktail menu include the October Walk-off with Woodford Reserve, Bigallet China-China, Yzaguirre Rojo Vermouth, bitters and Pasubio vino amaro; the Seedless Sour made with Bar Hill Gin, Cap Corse quinquina, watermelon, lime and Berliner Weisse; or the French Tourist with Olmeca Altos Tequila, kummel, yellow chartreuse, leon and mint. (79 Potomac Ave, SE; 202-506-2368)
