Where to Drink Fall Cocktails in D.C.

by Lanna Nguyen on Oct 2, 2018 in Roundups

The leaves are turning colors, the temperatures are finally cooling and that means one thing: it’s time for fall cocktails. From pumpkin and apple flavored drinks to ghoulishly-themed cocktails, here are the new cocktails you need to be sipping on when the seasons change.

Hotel Monaco’s restaurant and bar recently welcomed new bar manager, Drew Hairston, to the team. Guests can look forward to some of his fall cocktail creations including the Spa Date with Absolut Elyx, ylang ylang, bergamot and yuzu; On Horseback made with bacon-washed Elijah Craig Small Batch bourbon, black mission fig, mint, and maple; and the Florida Man - a complex drink made with a variety of ingredients including rum, fresh lime, whole milk, homemade Tahitian vanilla cordial, falernum and graham crackers - all perfect drinks to sip on al fresco while enjoying the cooler fall weather. (555 8th St, NW; 202-449-7095)

The latest pop up bar from Drink Company pays homage to the Richmond band through decor that is heavy on the metal theme and drinks that lean extra-ghoulish. Open through the end of October, sip on drinks such as Ragnarok Rickey (Scotch, Citrus Cordial, Perrier), Undead Scumdog (Sherry, Brandy, Maraschino Liqueur, Grapefruit, Cinnamon, Fig Grenadine, Lime) and Slaughterama-rita (Tequila, St. Germain, Watermelon, Lime, Salt) whilst taking in the gruesome props and backdrop, perfect for that Halloween ending. (1839 7th St, NW; 202-316-9396)

The Palisades outpost of the Italian restaurant will offer new seasonal beverages in honor of the changing season. New fall, Italian-inspired cocktails include the Luciano with bourbon, Montenegro, and orange juice garnished with a cherry; the 14th Green with Pisco, Cocchi Americano, lemon juice and pineapple juice; the Maranello with mezcal, Aperol, cherry syrup, passionfruit and grapefruit juice; the Associate with rye, mandarinetto liqueur, Amaro delle, Sirene, Finocchietto and Peychaud’s bitters and the Proibito with Old Overholt rye, Pear Williams brandy, simple syrup and rabarbaro bitters. (4814 MacArthur Blvd, NW; 202-506-6683)

Tis the season for pumpkin-spiced everything ...including cocktails. The Melrose Georgetown Hotel will be embracing fall flavors with a specialty cocktail from the bar team at Jardenea Lounge (the hotel’s farm-to-table concept restaurant). Made with vodka, pumpkin puree, a splash of fresh lemon juice and topped with house-made rich cinnamon and simple syrup, the festive concoction is perfect for the coming season. (2430 Pennsylvania Ave, NW; 202-955-6400)

The Reston restaurant will be welcoming fall with five new seasonal cocktails evoking autumn flavors. Among them, try the Pumpkin Mojito with silver rum, pumpkin syrup, mint, lime juice and a splash of soda water; the Brandied Apple made with apple-infused brandy, Cointreau, lemon juice, caramel and apple simple syrup; and the Beet Martini with Hendrick’s gin, fresh beet juice, lemongrass, honey and sage. (11150 South Lakes Drive, Reston; 571-375-7755)
