Where to Grab a Drink After a Day of Ice Skating in D.C.

by Lanna Nguyen on Feb 5, 2019 in Roundups

Whether you’re on a date, at a fun outing with friends, or babysitting - after a few spins around the ice rink, you deserve to treat yourself to an alcoholic beverage post-skate. Here are our top picks for where to warm up after getting your skate on.

National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink
Whisk away to Peru after a wintry day of skating. Just a few blocks north of from the Sculpture Garden rink, Jose Andres’ Peruvian/Chifa outpost serves up traditional cocktails like chilcanos, pisco sours and pisco punch. Pro tip: if you’re skating over the weekend, stop by from 4-6pm where the restaurant’s Pisco Hour extends through Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy $7 pisco sours and chilcanos, $6 house wine and $5 beer in addition to discounted bar bites. (418 7th St, NW; 202-783-0941)

The meat-centric restaurant and bar features a dark and moody interior ...the perfect winter bar. Get your fill of charcuterie and other hearty bar snacks like beef fat fries and crawfish hushpuppies. Pair them with spirits forward cocktails. (709 D St, NW; 202-524-5322)

Canal Park Ice Rink
Steps away from the Canal Park rink, the Navy Yard brewery features outdoor and indoor drinking spaces. Choose from the brewery’s 15+ draft beers and snack on everything from charcuterie and oysters to pierogis and loaded nachos. (300 Tingey St, SE; 202-524-4862)

Due South’s southern dishes will warm you up after a day of outdoor skating. Enjoy shrimp and grits, corn muffins, and charbroiled oysters while sipping on cocktails with a southern spin, like the Bear Bryant Old Fashioned. (301 Water St, SE; 202-479-4616)

Washington Harbour Ice Rink
Go tropical post-skating at Georgetown’s Farmers, Fishers, Bakers where the farm-inspired restaurant is known for its tiki drink offerings. The expansive menu features everything from traditional tiki cocktails such as Zombies, Mai tais, Daiquiris and Scorpions, to blended and frozen drinks and beer cocktails. If you love drinking out of tiki mugs, you can purchase one of them that come with the signature tiki cocktails. (3000 K St, NW; 202-298-8783)

A perfect date spot, cozy up with your skating partner at the Four Seasons’ restaurant lounge or head to the heated outdoor patio. There are plenty of warm cocktails for you to choose from, like the hot toddy, Baja hot chocolate, and the hot buttered rum. (2800 Pennsylvania Ave, NW; 202-944-2026)

The Wharf Ice Rink
Located on Transit Pier, take some laps at the Wharf’s rink and then head to Kwame Onwuachi’s Kith and Kin for Afro-Caribbean plates and cocktails. We highly recommend the Caribbean Belt, made with mezcal, rum, bitters, pineapple, ginger, tamarind, lime and coconut - pair it with the Goat Roti and the Oxtails for a post-skate treat. (801 Wharf St, SW; 202-878-8566)
