Neighborhood Bar Crawl: Adams Morgan

by Lanna Nguyen on Apr 17, 2019 in Roundups

The lively Northwest neighborhood is home to plenty of fun bars - but in our opinion, drinking should go hand in hand with eating. Here are some of our top picks featuring awesome beverage choices in addition to serving up delicious eats - burgers, Korean, Japanese and more - all can be found in AdMo!

Come for the Korean street food, stay for the cocktails. Comfort fare comes in the form of Korean Fried Chicken, Bulgogi Tacos, Kimchi Dumplings, Dukbokki (rice and fish cakes in hot pepper sauce) and of course...grilled protein options like the can’t miss Kalbi Ssam (Korean beef short ribs marinated in house sauce). Pair these dishes with hot sake ($5 every night) and signature soju cocktails served in hollowed out watermelons. (2431 18th St, NW; 202-733-3921)

For traditional Japanese rice bowls, pop into Donburi’s first location in Adams Morgan. The cozy spot has seating for a handful - if you’re lucky enough to snag a seat at the snug bar, order up from their menu of Donburi and Japanese Curry bowls - choose from variations including Sakedon with salmon sashimi; Unagidon with barbecued eel or Curry Katsudon. Order up pitchers of Kirin ($11 each), sake or a handful or other Japanese beer options. (2438 18th St, NW; 202-629-1047)

A marriage of Lebanese street food and Middle Eastern craft cocktails, The Green Zone has something for everyone. Billed as DC’s only Middle Eastern cocktail bar, the rotating menu features seasonal drinks alongside wines, beers and non-alcoholic offerings in addition to falafel and flatbreads among the food options. (2226 18th St, NW)

Chef Alex McCoy’s burger joint serves up brews, soju and barrel aged cocktails to go along with over the top chicken sandwiches, a variety of chips (thick hand cut fries, curry chips, and the infamous spice bag filled with fried chicken, peppers onion, chilis and sichuan peppercorn), and burgers that will require the use of at least 5 napkins. You can’t go wrong with any of the offerings but if you’re a first-timer, opt for the OG Bun with Creekstone patty, gouda, pickles, shaved lettuce, red onion, garlic mayo and yellow mustard. (2000 18th St, NW; 202-506-1713)

The boardwalk inspired seafood joint serves up Jersey Shore classics including Peel ‘n’ Eat Shrimp, Jersey Dogs, Crab Cakes and Fried Oyster Sandwiches to go with traditional Orange Crushes and Oyster Shooters. Take advantage of rotating daily specials that include $.99 wings and $3 Natty Bohs on Mondays and $3.50 fish tacos and $5 Tecates on Wednesdays in addition to a daily happy hour menu with $1 select oysters, $2 off all draft beers, and $5 rail drinks. (1817 Columbia Rd, NW; 202-534-3933)
