Speed Rack Raises Breast Cancer Funds with Female Bartender Competition
Speed Rack’s 10-city nationwide competition to find the fastest woman bartender comes to the District this weekend at Adams Morgan saloon Jack Rose. Eighteen of D.C.’s best lady ‘tenders (along with a handful from Philly) will go head-to-head in an four-hour showdown to see who can mix ‘em up the best and quickest. For $20, you can snag a seat at the action, complete with enough complimentary punch, cocktails and beer to keep you happy, plus food from chef Michael Hartzer to keep you focused.
Judges include Beltway food and drink luminaries like Top Chef’s Mike Isabella (Graffiato and the soon-to-open Bandolero) and Inside F & B editor (and D.C. native) Francine Cohen. The panel will rate competitors on both prep time and accuracy in creating several classic cocktail recipes. The winner of Speed Rack DC will continue on to the national finals, to be held in May 2012 in New York City.
Proceeds from the LUPEC (Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails) coordinated happening will benefit breast cancer research, thanks to sponsors like Absolut, Beefeater, Cointreau, Kahlua, Pernod, Macchu Pisco and more, who have donated the liquor to be used in the mixology face-off.
The event runs from 2–6 PM, and if you spring for the $35 entry fee, you’ll receive a Speed Rack t-shirt along with your fun afternoon. Tickets are available here.
