Evening Star Cafe Reopens in Alexandria with Craft Beer Focus
Longtime Mount Vernon Ave restaurant Evening Star Cafe has just relaunched, and craft brew fans in Del Ray should be extra pleased. A revamped beverage program features 20 taps, including one cask ale, and 30 more assorted crafts in cans and bottles. Highlighting the draft list will be rare gets such as Ballast Point Sculpin and Terrapin Oak-Aged Big Hoppy Monster. Everything is available in 4-oz. tasters ($2–$2) or regular pours ($6–$9). The Majestic Lounge, at the back of the dining room, sports taps attached to vintage General Electric refrigerators. Artisan cocktails are also part of the new drink menu, some of which are awaiting customer input before they are given official names. Expect them to run $9 or so.
The food offerings are also new, featuring American cuisine that takes cues from Southern fare. Chef Jim Jeffords is putting modern twists on traditional down home favorites, like buttermilk fried chicken and grilled Rappahannock oysters. The 60-seat room is decored with choice reclamied finds and bold colors, giving off the vibe of a classic 50s diner, and the upstairs No. 9 lounge is due to open within weeks, expanding the bar seating capacity. Evening Star Cafe opens daily at 5:30 PM.
