Coming in January: The Beer Academy at Arlington's Rustico
Whether you have just discovered the wonderful world of craft suds or know every malt, yeast and hop variety by heart, the new Beer Academy at Rustico in Ballston has knowledge to share. Beer expert Greg Engert will lead monthly, two-hour classes in flavor profiles, ales of the world, homebrewing and more.
Why is this man qualified to teach you about beer? For one, Engert was named one of Food and Wine’s Sommeliers of the Year, “[b]ecause he's bringing the same seriousness to beer that other sommeliers bring to wine.” As director of beer for Neighborhood Restaurant Group, Greg sources 555 artisinal brews (500 in bottles, 50 on tap and five in cask) for the company’s 11 area concepts. He’s also been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post and much more. In other words, he knows his brew-related stuff.
The first session runs January 21, from 1–3 PM; subsequent courses at “Brew U” will take place each week. Curious brew fans can sign up for a single class for $24, which includes the discussion as well as tastings of multiple beers (think half a dozen or more). Enroll for the whole year and receive $6 off each seminar (there are also discounts for three, six or nine classes).
Rustico will also offer a la carte brunch, so students can supplement their learning with some hearty eats. Space is limited, so reserve your spot in the inaugural class by calling the restaurant at 571-384-1820.
