Cocktail Recipes: Zeitgeist at Art and Soul
The Corcoran’s annual Artini cocktail competition calls upon the District’s best bartenders to come up with inspired drinks in homage to works of fine art. This year’s winner hails from Art and Soul mixologist Ronald Flores, who concocted the rum and herbal tea-filled Zeitgeist for the occasion, which is also our Drink of the Week.
A tribute to Harlem Renaissance painter Aaron Douglas’ 1936 Into Bondage, the drink uses many ingredients that relate to the former slave trade. Flores notes that the painting, “really shows the struggle and sorrow of those times. It allows us to see the perspective of the enslaved and highlights contrasts between the red chains of bondage and the soft ray of light from above.”
Check out the drink recipe below, or stop into Art and Soul to have one mixed up by the pros. Bonus: Zeitgeist will be served during the April 15 vegan brunch at Todd Gray’s Muse.
