901 Restaurant & Bar's New Sidewalk Patio Is Open

If David Von Storch gets his way, D.C. will soon be a playground for the young, beautiful and happily liquored. On April 1, the entrepreneur behind Urban Adventures unveiled the long-anticipated Penthouse Pool Club, an urban oasis on the roof of the high-gloss U Street outpost of his VIDA gym chain. Among its many features? A full-service bar and fire pits around which to enjoy its proffers.
But Von Storch has been busy — across town, another of his establishments, 901 Restaurant & Bar, just unveiled an 800-square-foot patio, the largest streetside dining venue in Penn Quarter. The expansive sidewalk space, which includes 55 seats (and a handful of umbrellas for scorching days), is a rare downtown spot for outdoor happy hours. Luckily for drinkers, there are two: 4–7 PM, and 10 PM–midnight, during which time selected red wine, white wine and small plates are $5, Chandon sparkling wine is $7 and draft beer — including the house lager, Belgian pale ale, India pale ale and oatmeal stout — is $4.
