Right Proper Brewing Co. Launches Kickstarter for Brewpub
Birreria Paradiso’s Thor Cheston has teamed up with Rocklands BBQ’s John Snedden to form Right Proper Brewing Company. The new brewery plans to open a neighborhood brewpub within city limits, one that makes and serves “well-price food and amazing fresh beer,” and helps anchor D.C. as a craft beer destination.
Right Proper will create two types of beer, dubbed “standards” and “baroques.” The first refers to classic beer styles, and the second will be all barrel-aged or fermented brews with unique flavor profiles and interesting ingredients. Cheston has an impressive beer background — in addition to creating Pizza Paradiso’s beer bars, he set up the beverage programs for Rober Weidmaier’s Brasserie Beck and Mussel Bar — so we’re expecting great things. He has even been knighted by the Belgian Brewers Guild in Brussels, if you need more reason to trust his suds prowess.
When is the new pub coming? That’s where Kickstarter comes in. Cheston cites a total budget of more than $2 million for the project, and though the partners have a business loan lined up, they can’t touch the money until they raise $2 million in escrow. In order to open within the next couple years, they need to order brewing equipment now, and so have turned to you, the beer-drinking public of Washington, for help.
Donation levels start at just $25 (your name engraved on a plaque plus two free beers when the joint opens) and go all the way up to $25,000 (a unit of preferred stock in the company). The total goal is $125,000 — no small change — so if you’re interesting in bringing another local brewpub to the District, head over and kick in a few bucks.
