Poste Launches Cour de L'Hiver, A Winter Courtyard Bar
Most bars retire their outdoor space for the season come November, but Poste Modern Brasserie has found a way to transform its beloved courtyard into a wintry cocktail den. Open this winter Tuesday through Saturday evenings starting at 4 PM, the winter courtyard bar transforms the area on the other side of Poste’s atrium bar with couches, heat lamps and even Kimpton’s signature leopard-print robes — grab one to keep warm while imbibing hot cocktails and enjoying a selection of bar bites meant for outdoor sharing.
We were fortunate enough to sample the winter-worthy menu items at the weekend launch of “Cour de L’hiver.” Master bartender Jason Wiles was on hand to whip up warmers such as the Elysium ($14) with Grand Marnier, amaretto amaro, coffee and chocolate bitters, and the Smokin' Bacon Hot Chocolate ($12), a crowd favorite with bacon-infused Bulleit bourbon, hot cocoa and a housemade bacon cayenne marshmallow that melts into a gooey layer of goodness. The cleverly named Where There's Smoke, There's Fire, $13, combines mezcal, spiced rum and agave-sweetened green tea, while three cold beverages — including A Midautumn Night's Dream with roasted pumpkin puree — offer an alternative option with equally seasonal ingredients.
Whichever cocktail you choose, make sure to get the classic cheese fondue ($17). This isn’t the cheesy (pun intended) stuff of some restaurant chains that might come to mind: the pot of melted comte tastes exactly how one dining companion described it: “like fancy French stuff.” Rich, thick and flavorful, you’ll be using every last bite of apple, sausage and toast to get your fix. Chef Dennis Marron’s patio menu also includes a S’mores Fondue (melted milk chocolate served with graham crackers and marshmallows) and a dark chocolate version that comes with fruit. Also look for mac and cheese, escargot and seasonal soup as well as the full patio menu if you desire (we’re talking about you, truffle fries!).
Already looking at your calendar for a time to go? Save the date for December 7: First Fridays feature live music, too.
