Fainting Goat Perks Up in the U Street Corridor
Fainting Goat, a new restaurant and bar in the U Street Corridor, made its big debut over the weekend. The casual neighborhood tavern is the handy work of Greg Algie and Henry Bruce. Algie, who is an owner of Fado Irish Pub and Cantina Marina, takes credit for the name. According to reports, his friends dubbed him Fainting Goat for his propensity to freeze up in front of woman in social settings.
This brand new spot offers guests a craft beer, clever cocktails and high-end American comforts. Chef James Barton, whose resume includes stints at worked at Westend Bistro, Oval Room, and Bibiana, oversees the kitchen and developed the menu. The bill of fare is broken down by “Nibble,” “Graze,” and “Feed.”
The early word on the cocktail situation is encouraging. According to Washington City Paper, the small introductory list includes: My-Q-Tonic, with Jensen gin, Q tonic, charred orange juice, and flamed orange; and Kumquat Fashioned, with Smooth Ambler Old Scout rye, kumquat, Luxardo cherry, and Angostura sweet soda. Even more encouraging: The bar is reportedly in the throes of assembling a collection of bourbons, ryes, and Scotch whiskies. As for beer, the bar boasts 12 taps and an extensive bottle list.
