Where to Celebrate Independence Day in Washington, DC

Where to Celebrate Independence Day in Washington, DC

There's nothing quite like an Independence Day celebration in the nation's capital. Whether you plan to catch the fireworks from above on a rooftop or ground level on the Mall, here are our picks for where you need to be on the Fourth of July.

July 3, 5 PM
Bier Baron will host what they call “‘MURRICA: Part Theme Party. Part Comedy Show. All American.” ‘Murrica is an interactive patriotic show which will include reenactments with cornhole. Enough said. Get tickets for $10 in advance or $12 at the door and enjoy happy hour drinks when the show starts at 5 PM. (1525 22nd St., NW; 202-293-1885)

City Tap House
12–5 PM
Head to City Tap House for the Neighborhood Barbeque Party. 3 Stars Brewing Company, Evolution Craft Brewing Company, Adroit Theory Brewing and City Tap House will be duking it out to see who’s BBQ is best in the ‘hood. $15 will get you BeerBQ samples from all competitors, potato salad, coleslaw and watermelon. Enjoy $5 draught specials and John Dalys all day long, and if you’re feeling in the competitive spirit, sign up for the Cornhole Competition. (901 9th St., NW; 202-644-9433)

Flight Wine Bar
7–10:30 PM
In DC, fireworks by rooftop is the only way to go. Lucky for you, Flight Wine Bar will be hosting a rooftop celebration for your firework viewing pleasure. Tickets include seating, food, beverage, and amazing views of fireworks. Snack on items including BBQ Bacon Burger Sliders, Braised Short Ribs and Southern Fried Chicken while sipping on Rosé (or whatever else floats your boat from the extensive drink selection). (777 6th St., NW; 202-864-6445)

Mason Inn
5–8 PM
Situated just by Mt. St. Alban, a favorite spot for firework viewing, Mason Inn will be hosting a pre-game with a three-hour open bar, dinner buffet featuring all-American fare (hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixings)...and be on the lookout for alcoholic popsicles. Tickets are $25. (2408 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-337-1313)

Satellite Room
2–6 PM
What’s more American than a backyard picnic? A backyard picnic with unlimited pie. Satellite Room will be hosting a 4th of July Pie Fest complete with endless pie and wood-fired pizza from Whisked, Sage and Timber Pizza. Tickets will also get you a glass of American Pie Punch and they’ll be showing American classics on the projection screen. Tickets are $15 in advance or $25 at the door. (2047 9th St., NW; 202-506-2496)

The Brixton
12–9 PM
Ever watch Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and think you could give those guys a run for their money? Well, now’s your chance. Head to the Brixton for a hot dog eating contest...winner gets all the glory and a ticket to Landmark Music Festival this September. There will also be a DJ on the roof and $5 Fireball and $4 Bud Lite specials. (901 U St., NW; 202-560-5045)

W Hotel
Touted as the best view in the city, the W Hotel’s rooftop bar POV will be hosting its annual Boom with a View. The party continues after the fireworks with signature cocktails and a live DJ set. Advance tickets are required. (515 15th St., NW; 202-661-2400)
