Celebrating its fifth year of bringing Cuban flavors and culture to downtown DC,
Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar will be highlighting a number of specials for the remainder of the summer season:
Summer Menu Additions
With a focus on Spanish, African, Creole, and Asian flavors, Cuba Libre’s menu showcases the best of traditional cooking techniques to create modern dishes. New summer menu items include Ropa Vieja Ravioles (house-made raviolis filled with Cortez chorizo, fresh shelled clams and served with a maduro-butter sauce); bruschettas de tostones topped with Cuban picadillo and grilled pineapple guacamole; coconut crab fritters served with a sweet chili dipping sauce and bay scallop ceviche with Baja bay scallops and heirloom tomatoes Pico de Gallo.
What goes well with all of these dishes? Rum. Pair these dishes with three variations of the classic Rum and Coke: The Original Cuba Libre with Bacardi Gold; the Cherry Cuba Libre with Bacardi Torched Cherry; and the Coconut Spiced Libre with Blue Chair Bay Coconut Spiced rum.
National Rum Day
In honor of National Rum Day on August 16, Cuba Libre will be offering specials the entire month of August. Stop in on the actual day for a Rum Day Sunday Funday and enjoy rums at half price in the bar/lounge area during happy hour, 5–7 PM. Through August 31, they’ll have three new rum flights (a Cuba Libre flight, a Rum Room Favorites Flight, and a Whiskey Lover's Flight) on the menu, available during lunch, brunch, and dinner.
A Culinary Trip to Cuba
If you’ve recently checked the calendar and realized summer is nearing its end and you haven’t yet gone on vacation, fear not. Chef-Partner Guillermo Pernot of Cuba Libre will be hosting a culinary trip to Cuba this fall from October 2–9. No stranger to the island country, Pernot traveled to Cuba three times in 2011 and again in 2012 and is the first American chef to cook in Cuba in over 40 years.
The tour is open to the public and includes round-trip airfare, five-star accommodations in Havana, all meals, guided activities and more (prices vary on single or double occupancy). Don’t miss your chance to experience Cuba’s rich history and culinary traditions. Visit Cuba Libre’s
website for more information.
