D.C. Bars with Amazing Outdoor Seating

by Lanna Nguyen on Apr 12, 2016 in Roundups

Spring is here, and that means it’s time to crawl out from your hibernation and embrace the sun and warm weather. Here’s our guide to bars with outdoor seating, so get thee to a rooftop (or patio) bar.

U St/14th St

Take your “swachos” (a.k.a “swine nachos,” or nachos topped with pulled pork) to the patio during happy hour from Monday–Friday from 5–7 PM and enjoy $5 Narragansetts, $4 Astra cans and $6 Astra, and a shot of rye. (917 V St. NW; 202-758-3562)

Tucked away near 14th St, the patio at Barcelona is a little garden oasis with reclaimed wood furniture and planters scattered throughout the space. It’s the perfect backdrop for tapas and sangria. (1622 14th St. NW; 202-588-5500)

Order your margarita from one of two bars on the rooftop of Richard Sandoval’s taqueria. Come during happy hour from 4–7 PM daily for $5 margaritas, seasonal aqua fresco, and house wines. (1819 14th St. NW; 202-328-3131)

You’ll find beer and barbecue at this beer garden on the corner of 14th and S Street. The small patio gets crowded fast, so come early or miss out on the awesome food menu that includes all the fixings for your brisket sandwich (fried pickles, hush puppies and Carolina coleslaw). (1801 14th St. NW)

The four-level restaurant features a rooftop with a retractable glass roof. Stop by during happy hour from 5–7 PM and enjoy half-price mussels, $5 craft beer, and $6 select wines. (1336 U St, NW; 202-853-9194)

With plenty of seating and a good indoor/outdoor flow, head to Masa 14’s rooftop for $5 cocktails and Latin-Asian small plates ranging from $4-7 during happy hour daily from 5–7 PM. (1825 14th St., NW; 202-328-1414)

Come right at 5 PM when Marvin’s rooftop opens, lest you find yourself elbow to elbow with strangers — this place is always packed. Snag a seat at one of the two bars during happy hour before the masses arrive. (2007 14th St. NW; 202-797-7171)

You know spring has arrived when the front bar windows open up to the patio. Get your oyster fix during happy hour, weekdays from 4–7PM, with two-for-one bivalves and half-price draft beers. (1612 14th St. NW; 202-319-1612)

We’ve already professed our love for The Prospect. Catch the Nats game on the TVs outside on the patio while you enjoy frozen cider, hog wings and pupusas. Happy hour is available Monday–Friday from 4–8 PM. (1214 U St, NW; 202-450-4130)

The outdoor plaza here, complete with a bar, outdoor grill and bocce court, needs to be on your list of springtime destinations. Sip on their spring cocktails and put your competitive bocce skills to the test. Happy hour runs daily from 5–7 PM and specials include $5 glasses of wine, $5 draft Peroni and discounted small plates. (1940 11th St. NW; 202-332-9463)

Shaw
The revamped beer garden now seats 250 and features a new spring menu with fried pickles, brats, grilled steak skewers, and more. Come for happy hour Monday–Thursday from 4–7 PM and get $5 Stoli mixed drinks and $5 singles or $10 boots of select drafts. (1600 7th St, NW; 202-350-9888)

One of the newest restaurants to hit Shaw, this beer garden and whiskey bar’s rooftop is definitely worth a visit. The 120-seat roof deck has removable windows, meaning this terrace is open year-round. Happy hour is offered Sunday–Thursday with different half price food and drink specials each day, including cider and salads, bottles and small plates, whiskey and wings, and more. (715 Florida Ave, NW; 202-202-525-1252)

Downtown/Chinatown
Located across the street from the Verizon Center, Bar Deco’s rooftop is the perfect spot to grab drinks and snacks before heading to the Caps/Wizards/Mystics game. Happy hour is available Monday–Friday from 4–7 PM with $5 house wines and rail drinks, among other drink specials. (717 6th St, NW; 202-774-5867)

H Street
Grab a liter and enjoy the outdoors at one of the many communal tables and benches scattered throughout the patio and rooftop deck. Happy hour runs Monday–Friday from 4–7 PM. (1355 H St. NE; 202-388-4053)

Enjoy your brew from this spot’s extensive beer list on the back patio. You can reserve the two level patio for private events, and Little Miss Whiskey’s will even throw in use of the gas grill. (1104 H St., NE)

From the owners of Ben’s Chili Bowl, Ten 01 is H Street’s newest rooftop bar. During happy hour enjoy discounted glasses of wine, spirits and craft beers along with food specials such as the marinated tri-tip steak skewers, shrimp and half smoke corn dogs and beer brined chicken skewers; 5–7 PM. (1001 H St, NE; 202-733-2405)

Dupont Circle/West End
If you’re looking to keep things classy, head to the Sky Bar at Beacon Bar and Grill. Take the elevator all the way to the top, where rooftop seating offers great views of the skyline. Beacon Bar and Grill is open for brunch, lunch, dinner, or cocktails. (1615 Rhode Island Ave., NW; 202-872-1126)

Enjoy your tapas and sangria on the patio during happy hour, and enjoy discounted drinks and bites including the patatas bravas, daily from 3–7 PM. Better yet, stop by for bottomless brunch on the weekends, with unlimited sangria and selected tapas. (1837 M St, NW; 202-558-9545)

Slurp down oysters and house-made punches on the front patio. Happy hour specials are available in the bar and lounge area from Monday–Friday from 3–7 PM. Take your pick — sunshine and fresh air or discounted oysters. (1624 Q St. NW; 202-462-4265)

You'll find liter beers and gigantic pretzels the size of tricycle tires on the rooftop of Sauf Haus. Happy hour runs Monday–Friday from 4–7 PM with $2 off all offerings. (1216 18th St. NW; 202-466-3355)

Georgetown
Head to the Georgetown Waterfront and get your fill of tiki drinks on the patio of Farmers Fishers Bakers. Enjoy a Bahama Mama, Mai Tai Punch, and every other tropical drink you can imagine. (3000 K St. NW; 202-298-8783)

Come to Washington Harbor during happy hour, Monday–Friday from 4–7 PM, and you'll get awesome views of the water and half-price oysters. (3000 K St. NW; 202-944-4545)

Adams Morgan
Half price happy hour runs Monday–Friday from 5:30–7 PM, but is only available in the first floor bar. Be sure to hit up the open air terrace and seasonal tiki bar afterwards. (2007 18th St. NW; 202-588-7388)

Open seasonally, sip on punch bowls and frozen cocktails on the third floor rooftop and enjoy awesome views of 18th Street. (2446 18th St. NW; 202-232-7663
