New Fall Cocktails at Masa 14
After unveiling the addition of a roofdeck this past spring, Masa 14 partners Richard Sandoval, Kaz Okochi and Ivan Iricanin are making more changes at their Latin-Asian hotspot on 14th Street. Last week, newly appointed executive chef Adam Goldman introduced five new seasonal plates, and with them a selection of fall-inspired cocktails conceived by bar manager Marc Eber and his team.
Masa’s autumnal sips combine some of the best flavors of fall, including cinnamon, mulled cider, brown sugar, cranberry and vanilla. The Masa Smoked Cider features smoky mezcal with Fireball cinnamon whisky, mulled apple cider and fresh lemon while the Cranberry Cider Tini takes a somewhat different spin on cinnamon and cider with the addition of cranberry vodka.
Our favorite of the fall bunch is Autumn on 14th, an alliterative concoction of bourbon, balsamic syrup, brown sugar, (ginger) beer and basil. The tangy-sweet balance between the balsamic and brown sugar is unexpected, making this one cocktail that’s sweet but not overly so.
The Zombi-tini — a crowd favorite — will be available on Halloween night and the weekend before, if not sometime earlier due to popular demand. The drink uses RumChata (a creamy liqueur), Stoli vanilla and half-and-half, all shaken and strained into a graham-cracker rimmed martini glass. It’s a sweet dessert drink that will sound good before and after dinner; look for it on the specials menu starting in October.
The cocktails accompany Masa’s new fall menu offerings, which include roasted beet salad, wok-fried mussles, cornmeal crusted oysters, salmon tartar and cream of corn soup. Enjoy them on the roofdeck before winter sets in!
