Where to Grab a Pint and a Pie in DC

Few things go together like pizza and beer. Whether you’re looking for a great happy hour deal, bottomless pizza brunch (yes, that’s a thing), or a low-key dinner spot, here’s our pick six for where to grab pies and pints in the city.
Located two blocks from the Verizon Center, District of Pi is a great spot for a pre-Caps/Wizards/Mystics game snack. Lovers of deep dish and thin crust pizza alike will be pleased with the pie offerings that include specialty combinations (the current thin crust special is a cubano-influenced pizza with Cuban style pork, dill pickles, ham, Swiss cheese, and mustard) as well as a create-your-own option with a myriad of toppings to choose from. Pair your pizza with a brew from the impressive line-up of craft beers, including local favorites from DC Brau, Port City, and Lost Rhino. (910 F St., NW; 202-393-5484)
Branded as a pizzeria and wine bar, you’ll also find a handful of Italian brewed beers here, such as Birra Moretti. The pizza menu is limited with six options but feature classic toppings and flavors on a razor thin crust. (1541 14th St., NW; 202-232-0920)

Graffiato
By now you’ve probably heard of Mike Isabella’s popular “Jersey Shore” pizza topped with fried calamari. Other interesting pies with equally unique names include Pineapple Express (with country ham, charred pineapple, and scallion) and Casper the Friendly Ghost (with cauliflower, mozzarella, garlic oil, and endive salad). Pro tip: A handful of pizzas are on the happy hour menu for a discounted price. Head to the bar Monday–Friday from 4–7 PM, and you’ll also get $5 Victory Hop Devil IPAs and Peronis and $4 Bud Light Limes. (707 6th St., NW; 202-289-3600)

On 14th Street, Ghibellina’s Neopolitan-style pizza is delivered to you complete with scissors for tableside cutting. Try the classic Margherita di Bufala or venture out and order the Vongole topped with clams. Pro tip: Ghibellina offers up one of the best happy hour deals with half price pizzas from 4–6:30 PM at the bar….oh, and $4 beers don’t hurt either. (1610 14th St., NW; 202-803-2389)

With 15 different brick oven pizzas to choose from, Matchbox is the perfect place to grab a pizza and pint. Fans of spice should try the Fire + Smoke, made with a base of fire-roasted red peppers and chipotle pepper tomato sauce. Come during happy hour from 3–6 PM, Monday–Friday for $5 select drafts. (Multiple locations)
All you can eat pizza brunch. That should be enough to persuade you to visit Italian pizza chain, Piola. With two locations in the area, you can enjoy endless pizzas from what seems like an endless menu (but really, there are over 40 types) and draft Peronis at either Rosslyn or on 14th Street. (Multiple locations)
